Florence?

florence-and-the-machine-q-magazine-copy
With Q being my Main influence with my magazine, something struck out to me immediately as I was beginning to analyse different issues of this magazine. The Front cover always seems to have one person in the foreground view to show what the main article is about. Even if this main article is about a band, it will only show one person from a band (usually the front vocalist) on the front cover. I'd like to have the feature on my front page to be different to what my double page spread is about. Taken this into account I will definatly use this as an influence to have my front page have a singuler feature.

Another feature I noticed with this example is the Rule of thirds is clearly used. The main face takes up the middle of the page, Article captions take up the left and right sections, the logo takes up the top-left section and the quote "Florence Woman on the edge" takes up the top and top-right sections. As I already discussed above, i'd like to use a full body shot in the same way as the above front page, with the person taking up the middle slots, My Logo/name on the top-left, my front page feature caption on the top-right and featured articles along the left and right.

Initial Ideas

Immediatly setting off with the project, I got to work with the initial ideas of what I want this magazine to become. Starting off, I have 5 Preliminary names for this magazine. Uprising, Third Eye, Hunger, Millenium and Red. The large arrow on the left explains that I would like to use one of the unused names to advertise for a festival on the Front Page. A convention I found on the Q and Kerrang magazines. There are also forks for Colour schemes, featured artists and front cover stories.

Preliminary Task Front Page

The preliminary task was a good learning curve for the music magazine. Above is the front cover for the magazine "Whi-Fi". Doing this I discovered how hard using programs such as Photoshop and Indesign could be. The picture of the student itself was difficult to cut out using the Magnetic tool due to the person's hair. I also would like to work better on the layout of the sub-topics dotted around the page as they look quite unneat and out of place. All this will be taken into consideration for the Music Magazine.
