Evaluation
My Evaluation is completed. It can be viewd on my slideshare account http://www.slideshare.net/jackgriffiths15
A weird yet effective Line!
I have created something that was inspired by a red line featured on Q's contents pages. This red line which now looks like a thin parallelogram has been very effective in both neatly sorting the articles on the front cover and the contents page.
Indesign
As well as Photoshop, Indesign was crucial to become used to in this project. This was the best software to make the magazine as perfect as possible
Photoshop
During this project I have learnt how to use the software photoshop. This was crucial in making sure the images were perfectly suitable for this magazine
New Colour Scheme!
Despite my earlier commitment, My Magazine does feature a drastic new colour scheme consisted of Red, Black, Yellow and Grey. With Red being paired with Grey and Yellow being paired with Black.
New Fonts!
I have decided to completely remodel the font scheme to feature standout fonts rather than unique artistic ones. My main Font featured on my Banner is called "Hunger Games". Others include "Lotte Paperfang" and "Mangal"
Rough Cut! Part 1: Front
My front cover shows a definite mix between Q, Acoustic and Hunger. Dring Feedback I got concerns about the colour scheme, The Blank spaces and the out of place BarCode. While I will definitly add more to fill the space and rearrange the barcode to the more conventional bottom right position, I don't plan to change the Colour Scheme drammatically.
Fonts
Using Hunger as an influence, I have decided on using Sea Dreams as one of my main fonts, as well as Cheveuxdange. Both have a unique style that matches the Style used in Hunger.
Analysing school mag contents
The Contents page on my school mag I feel was just as unaffective as my Front Cover. The Background Image didn't really work so i plan on using a coloured background for my music magazine. I also think there were too many images on this page. I plan on using 2 images on my Music Contents page.

Banners
Both these banners would work with my magazine, but for now I am planning on going for one that resembles the above "Acoustic" Banner. I believe this combined with the Hunger Banner would create something that really fits the simplistic nature of my magazine.
Analysing the School Mag Front
Returning back to the School magazine. I feel the Front cover had a level of basicness that I feel was too much for a magazine that is aimed at teenagers and kids. The overall design is clunky and uninspiring and the layers and pictures dont add together very well.
However while the image does not work with this layout, I believe it will work with the Music magazine in mind.
However while the image does not work with this layout, I believe it will work with the Music magazine in mind.
Contents Part 2

The two contents pages above display two different features that i'd like to use in my magazine.
The first displays a main image that matches the one I've planned for my front cover. Having A picture of the same feature but in a different way would save time and look professional but I cant say how it would be different yet.
The second contents is not as Image dominated, which is something I would like to match with my Front cover.
Both of these contents have their front cover on top-right of the page. This Appears to be a trademark feature of Q and other magazines. This is something I will include on my magazine
Another feature that both these contents pages have

Sticking with Ed Sheeran and Q for the moment, The main feature I see about the image is the overall layout between the writing and the feature image. With a Q ideal in mind, I plan on using this sort of combo however with more space filled.
I think the way this magazine has included a different title for this feature is very effective. I have already decided on using the title "Bringing the spotlight" for my magazine. To emphasize the niche artists in my magazine.

The Power of Love (Extra innocence Edition)
Gabrielle Aplin completely fits with the genre that i'm trying to display with this magazine. A now established mainstream Acoustic-pop singer with Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter/Folk roots.
The front cover above expresses this perfectly. The shadow laying across her eyes and the simplistic dress sense portraying the simple acoustic genre. While the Pink bow symbolising the playfulness and innocence that the Pop genre aims for. While I'm planning a male model for my front cover, this is exactly what i'd like to portray in it.
Also, this magazine has chosen to become almost completely devoid of extra articles and features to place on the front cover. Leaving only: The image, The magazine title, basic information of the magazine and in very small writing, a select number of artists also featured in this magazine. With these names usually encompassing the whole front cover on some magazines. While perhaps not as extreme as this, I'd like to have a similar level of basicness in my magazine. While this goes against what I intended when I analyzed with the Florence and the Machine front cover, I would like to have something else perhaps in the Bottom left hand corner in addition to my main feature. However like this front cover, I'd like to only include one main picture.
Annoyingly, I had no idea that the magazine "Hunger" existed before today. This is one of my initial names for this project. So that's a small brainfail from me.

Double page spreader
Having a first look at double page spreads, the first thing that catches my eye are the breakout quotes. These seem to be a consistant feature across many magazines featuring interviews. I would like to use these in my magazine in a similar fashion to how they're used here. The quotes here such as "I'm not a rapper, I'm a singer-songwriter" directly reinforces the genre that this magazine is trying to sell. This matches both my chosen genre, and the style of writing I will use in my Magazine.
The artwork next to the Drop Capital and in the "Like this? Try this..." section can be seen as an advertising method, as people who take interest in the subject of this article will be able to look out for the album art seen in this double page spread. While I don't need to worry about advertising in my project, this can be seen as a feature that is very consistent across multiple magazines and I will be sure to try to include a similar feature in my magazine.
Contents

In typical A-level fashion i've been struggling to find influences relating to an Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter/Folk Magazine. However the recent rise of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Gabrielle Aplin and even Taylor Swift has bridged the gap between acoustic and pop music. Which gives me a reason to take both acoustic and pop influences for this magazine.
Moving on to the above image, there are a couple of features in this contents page which i'd like to include in this project.
Firstly the border on the top displays the basic information that every contents page needs and manages to include the 3 house clours that Q uses, black red and white. Despite only having one page for my contents page instead of the two that is used here, I would like to include this in my project with my own intended house colours, white, orange and pink. However on this border it does display the issue number. I feel like this is something that is only needed on the front cover.

Next is the layout of the writing across this image. The rule of thirds is used from left to right here. With the most important articles on the left, images in the centre and less important articles on the right. While I understand why Q has done this, I would like to use this in a descending order rather than landscape to maximise the use of a one page contents rather than two.
